How the trust score works

Every active broker gets a score from 0 to 100, calculated only from FMCSA public records. We don't sell scores, and paid plans never change them.

The five factors

FactorPointsHow it's calculated
Authority age303 points per year since the broker authority was first granted (10+ years = full points). New brokers are not bad by default, but fraud is concentrated in very new authorities.
Bond on file25A current BMC-84 surety bond or BMC-85 trust fund filing ($75,000 minimum) protects carriers and shippers if the broker fails to pay.
Revocation history20Minus 10 points per involuntary revocation in the last 5 years and 2 per older one. Involuntary revocations usually follow lapsed bonds, insurance or process agents.
Filing stability15Minus 7 points per bond coverage gap in the last 3 years (a bond ended with no replacement within 30 days) and 5 per involuntary suspension. Switching surety companies without a gap is not penalized.
Profile completeness10Full points when FMCSA has a business phone and address on file.

Red flags

Separately from the score, we show a red-flag box when any of these are true. A flag is a reason to check more carefully, not proof of fraud.

Data sources

FMCSA moved broker registration to its new Motus system in May 2026. The older Licensing & Insurance (L&I) datasets stopped receiving updates on May 14, 2026. We combine both: L&I as the historical base, with Motus records taking priority wherever they exist.

Datasets used (data.transportation.gov): Carrier, AuthHist, Revocation, Insur and InsHist — in both legacy and Motus versions. Only brokers with active property-broker authority are listed.
